AUXILIARY COUNCIL

Auxiliary Council offers more flexibility for those who cannot commit time on a regular basis. Auxiliary Council members volunteer on an as-needed basis on such diverse projects as:

  • Admissions Desk volunteers provide information about the Museum and its activities and accept admission fees. They may be asked to serve as back up in the Museum Store. Commitment: Three hours per week (a morning or afternoon).
  • Museum Store volunteers act as cashiers selling art-related items, books, exhibition catalogues, stationery and various gift items. Cash register experience is helpful. Store volunteers may be asked to serve as back up at the Admissions Desk. Commitment: Three hours per week (a morning or afternoon).
  • Membership volunteers staff membership tables and assist staff at special events and programs such as opening receptions for exhibitions. They work closely with the Museum's professional staff and perform an important role in attracting and coordinating the growing membership of the Friends. Volunteers also assist with general office duties including typing, computer data entry, mailings and other areas. Commitment: One year.
  • Publicity volunteers clip, Xerox and file publicity pictures, articles, etc. pertaining to the Neuberger Museum of Art. Commitment: Twice a month (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday).
  • Family Festivals volunteers assist on the day of the event in workshops, host/hostessing, check-in, trouble-shooting, assisting performers and decorating. They also distribute flyers and information locally to promote the event. Family Festivals occur approximately four times per year.
  • Marketing: Tour Group Development volunteers encourage groups to visit and tour the Museum.
  • Marketing: Promotion volunteers disseminate information to appropriate local retailers, develop and encourage joint promotions.
  • Marketing: Courtesy volunteers acknowledge every visitor to the Museum with a handwritten card signed by the Director. Neat handwriting required.
  • House Tour volunteers act as hosts and hostesses assigned to a room of each house that is open to the public the day of the event. They also arrange for buses, write publicity, mail invitations and write house descriptions. Volunteers create the accompanying journal by soliciting ads from local retailers and trades people, and handling the layout and paste-up.
  • Art Treks volunteers coordinate the planning of day or weekend trips for large groups three to four times per year. Experience is preferred.
  • Addressing/Mailing volunteers are needed throughout the year by all departments to keep up with our outreach efforts.
  • Hospitality/Receptions volunteers act as greeters at various Museum functions throughout the year, especially at the exhibition opening receptions.
