JIM DINE, SOME DRAWINGS
Jim Dine is celebrated for his repetitive iconography, e.g. robes, hearts, tools and the Venus De Milo. Essentially an expressionist with a classical bent, Dine’s style emphasizes draftsmanship while underscoring the ultimate importance of emotional content.
This exhibition features 85 works that focus on the variety and breadth of Dine’s drawings and demonstrate the intense way he observes the world around him and the excitement with which he records it on paper. Many of the works are drawn from the artist's own collection and the collection of Arne Glimcher and include large-scale drawings as well as more typical full-sheet size drawings.
The exhibition is curated by Stephanie Wiles, Director, Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College, with Jim Dine. The exhibition at the Neuberger Museum of Art is the second of a three-stop tour. A full-color publication of the exhibition is published by Steidl and available in the Neuberger Museum of Art Store.
